Adlan Taramov on the Issues

RELIABLE SERVICES

🛠️🧹

Hamiltonians pay high taxes; you deserve clean parks, well-paved roads, and responsive city services that cover the basics.

  • Fixing Our Arteries: Immediate prioritization of severe pothole repairs and road maintenance on major mountain corridors, specifically Stone Church, Upper James, and Fennell.

  • Cleaner Neighbourhoods: I will advocate to increase the weekly garbage collection limit to 2 bags. We also need faster municipal response times for clearing overgrown bushes blocking public sidewalks and regular street sweeping.

  • Well-Lit Parks: Upgrading municipal lighting in our local parks to ensure they are safe, usable, and welcoming year-round.

SMART GROWTH

& NEIGHBOURHOOD CHARACTER

🏡🏘️

  • Protecting Suburban Character: High-density development belongs in the downtown core. I support "gentle density" on the Mountain only when it is matched by the necessary upgrades to sewers, parking, and school capacity.

  • Transit, Not Just Towers: Rather than overwhelming Lime Ridge Mall with new massive residential towers, I will push to establish a dedicated GO Bus Hub at Lime Ridge or Mohawk College. Mountain residents shouldn't have to drive downtown through heavy traffic just to access regional transit.

SAFE STREETS

& SAFE NEIGHBOURHOODS

🚸🚦

Our quiet residential streets are not high-speed highways, and our families deserve to feel safe in their driveways and on their sidewalks.

  • Physical Traffic Calming: Installing physical speed bumps and targeted traffic calming measures in quiet residential zones to deter speeding cars and loud motorcycles from endangering children and pets.

  • Tackling Auto Theft:

I will push City Council to direct police budget resources toward localized, visible community policing hubs (modeled after successful Tokyo-style substations) and environmental design improvements to deter property crime.

TAX ACCOUNTABILITY & ECONOMIC INNOVATION

💡📊

Residents are feeling the squeeze of municipal over-spending. We must freeze irresponsible budget hikes and grow our tax base through commercial innovation, not by endlessly raising residential property taxes.

  • Tax Relief for Homeowners: I will demand a freeze on municipal spending and fight to cap any residential property tax rate increases at or below inflation.

  • The Future Economy: To build Hamilton's commercial tax base, I will propose temporary low-tax zones on the Mountain to incentivize clean-tech, med-tech, and research hubs. This will create high-paying local jobs, keeping Mohawk and McMaster alumni living and paying taxes right here in Hamilton.

PROTECTING ESCARPMEN & Upgrading Our Parks

🌳🌲

Ward 8’s green spaces are our greatest asset. I want to defend them while bringing Hamilton’s public spaces into the future.

  • Escarpment Protection: Strictly maintaining our existing trails, stairs, and green spaces, defending them from piecemeal over-development.

  • Futuristic Public Spaces: Rejuvenating our local parks and plazas with modern public art, smart infrastructure, and high-tech landscaping to give our community a beautiful, future-oriented vibe.

EVIDENCE BASED CITY HALL

🏛️🎓

You shouldn't need backroom connections to get a pothole fixed. City Hall needs to stop relying on expensive private consultants and start using proven data.

  • Direct Accountability:

I will conduct regular ward walks and implement a transparent tracking system so that when you report an issue, you get a direct answer and visible action.

  • Leveraging Academic Expertise: Hamilton sits near some of the best research universities in the world, including McMaster and UofT. We should be partnering directly with their public policy, urban planning, and public health experts to implement internationally proven strategies for dealing with the homelessness and addiction crises.
